Tragedy struck this year’s Hajj pilgrimage for Ghanaian Muslims as two pilgrims from Damongo in the Savannah region lost their lives due to health complications while in Saudi Arabia.

According to reports from Channel One News, one pilgrim passed away on Sunday, June 9, while the other succumbed to health issues on Wednesday, June 12, 2024.
The Hajj Board Chairman, Ben Abdallah Banda, confirmed these unfortunate incidents and stated that both deceased pilgrims were laid to rest in accordance with Islamic rites.
This news comes amidst the participation of over 4,000 Ghanaian pilgrims in the annual Hajj pilgrimage, which is one of the five pillars of Islam and a significant religious duty for Muslims worldwide.

In a contrasting development during the Hajj pilgrimage, there was a moment of joy as a Ghanaian woman among the pilgrims gave birth to a healthy baby in the holy city of Mecca on Wednesday.
Reflecting on the overall situation, Chairman Ben Abdallah Banda expressed mixed emotions, stating, “So far, so good, except for the unfortunate loss of two pilgrims. One of our pilgrims has also given birth to a healthy baby.”
The Hajj pilgrimage, which involves rituals such as circling the Kaaba and visiting the Mount Arafat, draws millions of Muslims from around the globe each year to the holy city of Mecca in Saudi Arabia.
