Pope Francis has once again stirred controversy with his use of a homophobic term, despite apologizing weeks ago for similar remarks.

During a private meeting with Italian bishops on May 20, he used the word ‘frociaggine,’ roughly meaning ‘f*****ness’ in Italian.
This term resurfaced on June 11 during a meeting with Roman priests, where he lamented ‘an air of f*****ness in the Vatican’ and suggested that young men with homosexual tendencies should not enter seminaries.
The Vatican’s press office referenced a statement from the meeting, emphasizing the Pope’s stance on welcoming gay individuals while exercising caution with their admission to seminaries.

Some bishops speculated that the Pope, being Argentine, might have been unaware of the offensive nature of the term he used.
This incident marks a setback for the Pope, who has previously been commended for his efforts to embrace the LGBTQ+ community.
His recent comments have drawn criticism and represent a regression in the church’s stance on LGBTQ+ rights.
Despite issuing an apology for the previous incident, the Pope’s use of derogatory language undermines the progress made towards inclusivity within the Catholic Church.
