Franklin Cudjoe, the president of IMANI Africa, has recently voiced strong criticism of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s administration.

Cudjoe, known for his dedication to transparency and good governance, began by expressing his long-standing respect for Nana Addo, recalling the president’s efforts to promote freedom in Ghana.
Cudjoe and Nana Addo’s professional relationship dates back to before the 2016 elections. IMANI Africa was invited by Nana Addo’s team to discuss the Free SHS program.
Despite disagreeing with the universal free education model, IMANI Africa provided detailed projections on enrollment and costs, highlighting a shared goal of improving education.
However, Cudjoe’s admiration has turned into disappointment. He criticized the administration for economic mismanagement, saying it has been the most fiscally reckless since Ghana’s independence, leading to huge debts and loss of access to international loans.
Cudjoe also condemned the unchecked illegal mining activities that have damaged rivers and forests.

On corruption, Cudjoe pointed to several procurement scandals, like the SML, PDS, KelniGVG, and 5G network license deals. He noted that only a small portion of the Frontiers Health COVID-19 funds were used appropriately, and many contracts bypassed the tracking system.
He also criticized the GENSER gas deal and the Aker oil deal, which have cost Ghana nearly $30 billion.
Additionally, Cudjoe criticized the mismanagement of the Trade Fair Centre and the controversial Cathedral project, calling it a symbol of poor priorities and mismanagement. He believes it will remain incomplete by the end of Nana Addo’s term.
Cudjoe emphasized that true friends speak truth to power and hopes their friendship can be rekindled if Nana Addo acknowledges and apologizes for the administration’s failings.
Until then, Cudjoe remains committed to demanding accountability and better governance for Ghana’s future.
