The two individuals were last seen in April 2024 and are suspected to have been kidnapped and killed in southeastern Nigeria.
The investigation also encompasses the death of Andrew Ochekwo, the prime suspect in the disappearance of Afiba and her friend Celine Ndudim, who died while in police custody.
According to a statement released on June 10, 2024, by the Nigerian Police Force’s spokesperson, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the IGP has directed the Monitoring Unit to conduct an extensive and thorough inquiry into the circumstances surrounding Andrew Ochekwo’s demise.
The incident began when Afiba and Celine traveled from Port Harcourt to Aba, the capital of Abia State, to meet businessman Andrew Ochekwo, whom they had reportedly connected with through Facebook.

Following their visit, the two ladies went missing, sparking concerns about their safety.

A Nigerian human rights activist, Harrison Gwamnishu, alleges that the women were kidnapped shortly after their trip.
During the subsequent investigation, a corpse was discovered at Ochekwo’s residence in Aba. However, Ochekwo met his demise while being transported to Abuja after reportedly attempting to escape from police custody.
In response to the complex nature of the case and public interest, the IGP has instructed the Monitoring Unit to conduct a thorough examination into the roles played by the initial investigative team in Abia State and the Force Intelligence Department Intelligence Response Team (IGP-IRT).
The investigation aims to uncover the facts surrounding the incident and provide a comprehensive report within a two-week timeframe.
