Parliament will resume sitting from recess today, Tuesday, June 11, marking the start of the second meeting of the Fourth Session. This follows a hiatus that began on March 20, 2024, when the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, abruptly adjourned the House.

The adjournment came after a thorough response to a letter from the Presidency, which cautioned Parliament against transmitting the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, commonly known as the anti-gay bill, to the President for assent.

The decision to reconvene was spurred by a petition from the Majority Caucus on May 3, 2024, urging the Speaker to address key government business items urgently. Among the critical issues on the agenda are the adoption of the Thirty-Fourth Report of the Appointments Committee and a motion on additional financing.
A letter from the Office of the Speaker officially recalled Members of Parliament from recess, paving the way for proceedings to commence today. This session is anticipated to be pivotal as lawmakers tackle significant legislative and financial matters that have been pending during the recess period.
