The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has issued a strong warning against calls for attacks on soldiers, emphasizing that such actions pose a significant threat to the nation’s security and stability. This caution comes in the wake of a viral video featuring Ernest Frimpong, an NPP parliamentary candidate for the Amenfi East constituency in the Western Region, urging individuals suspected of involvement in small-scale mining to resist arrests by soldiers.

Ernest Frimpong has refuted allegations that he endorsed illegal mining and encouraged miners to resist military personnel. He claims his statements were taken out of context from a two-hour engagement with artisanal small-scale miners.

In response to the video and the subsequent allegations, the Director General in charge of Public Relations at the Ghana Armed Forces, Brigadier General E. Aggrey-Quashie, issued a press statement on Monday, June 10, 2024. The statement noted, “We have taken note of viral videos on social media calling for attacks on soldiers and other security personnel. We strongly wish to caution the public against such utterances.”

Brigadier General Aggrey-Quashie highlighted the dangers of incitement, stating, “It is instructive to note that such calls are not only unlawful but also pose a significant threat to the security and stability of our nation. We therefore condemn any form of incitement or encouragement of violence against our soldiers.”
