John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, has committed to working with relevant authorities and partners to recover funds and assets obtained through corruption if he is elected president in the forthcoming December 7 general elections.

Mahama, a former president, expressed concern about the increasing instances of corruption and the blatant lack of fiscal discipline by the Akufo-Addo-led administration. He vowed to do everything in his power to ensure the recovery of all misappropriated funds if he emerges victorious in the upcoming elections.

Referring to the scandal involving former Sanitation Minister Cecilia Dapaah, who controversially stashed over $1 million in her Abelemkpe home that was later stolen by her domestic staff, Mahama pledged during a live broadcast titled ‘Mahama Conversations’ that he would foster collaborations to recover every single Cedi that was unlawfully taken from taxpayers.

Despite the socio-economic challenges, Mahama noted that young people continue to witness the extravagance of the New Patriotic Party administration’s officials and their families, who charter private jets at $20,000 per hour for trips that could have been made using the country’s own Falcon Executive Jet.

He pointed out that as the Minister for Defence explained, the Falcon Executive Jet lacked a shower for a presidential bath. He also highlighted that Ghana’s youth have seen how a minister could hide millions of dollars in her home, and only God knows the full extent of Ghanaian taxpayers’ money that has been hidden away by many others.

However, Mahama reassured the good people of Ghana that, in collaboration with Ghanaians and international anti-corruption partners, they would do everything humanly possible to recover such ill-gotten wealth.
