Nigerian filmmaker Kunle Afolayan revealed plans to shoot Season 2 of his acclaimed movie, Anikulapo, in Ghana.

This decision aligns with Ghana’s push to become a focal point for movie production, as part of the National Film Authority’s “Shoot in Ghana” initiative.
Afolayan shared this news during the Nigeria International Film and TV Summit in Cannes, France.
The summit, attended by industry experts and media personalities, including Ghana’s National Film Authority CEO, Juliet Yaa Asantewaa Asante, served as the platform to announce the collaboration.
Asante emphasized the importance of this partnership in revitalizing and strengthening the film relationship between Ghana and Nigeria.

She highlighted the mutual benefits both countries stand to gain by delving deeper into collaboration and exploring each other’s markets and strengths.
Anikulapo, a production by Kunle Afolayan in collaboration with Netflix, garnered widespread acclaim since its release in 2022.
The decision to shoot parts of the sequel in Ghana adds momentum to the “Shoot in Ghana” campaign, launched two years ago to encourage African filmmakers to utilize Ghana’s resources and facilities.
With numerous accolades, including the Overall Best Movie in Africa at the African Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, Anikulapo’s decision to join the campaign underscores the growing commitment to Ghana’s initiative in promoting African cinema.
