Frustrated commuters voiced their anger, urging swift action to mend the road and hold the contractor accountable. The mishap not only disrupted the highway but also wreaked havoc on local infrastructure.
The Ayensu River, meandering from the Eastern Region, intersects the Accra-Cape Coast Highway at Gomoa Okyereko before flowing into the sea.
This disruption underscores the dire need for meticulous planning and execution of infrastructure projects to avert such calamities.
Robert Hackman, Gomoa East District Director for the National Disaster Management Organization (NaDMO), advised commuters to seek alternative routes via Winneba while repairs are underway.
He stressed the urgency of restoring the highway to avert further inconvenience and potential hazards.
