This move, aimed at celebrating the NHIS’s 20th anniversary, targets individuals aged under 18 and over 60 suffering from kidney ailments.
Dr. Da-Costa Aboagye, Acting Chief Executive Officer of NHIA, affirmed that this effort is part of the NHIS’s anniversary festivities.
The government of Ghana, allocating GH¢2,000,000.00 approved by parliament, backs this initiative to aid financially challenged and vulnerable patients requiring dialysis treatments.
Furthermore, an additional GH¢2,400,000.00 from NHIA’s Corporate Social Responsibility budget has been dedicated to support this crucial health intervention.

The subsidy covers two dialysis sessions per month for patients aged between 18 and 59 at specified hospitals across the country, excluding Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH).
Patients at KBTH are eligible for a subsidy covering two sessions monthly at a reduced rate, thanks to a philanthropic contribution aimed at ensuring cost equity.
The NHIS’s commitment to addressing renal diseases and other uncovered illnesses underscores the government’s dedication to sustainable healthcare interventions.
This initiative reflects a holistic approach to healthcare, ensuring accessible treatment for all citizens.
With this move, the NHIS aims to alleviate the financial burden on kidney disease patients and improve their access to essential dialysis treatments.
