In a video that quickly went viral, Yesufu can be seen seated while the anthem is being recited, signaling her objection to the anthem’s reintroduction.

Taking to her social media account, Yesufu shared the video of her protest with the hashtag #NotMyNationalAnthem, clearly indicating her dissatisfaction with the reinstatement of the old national anthem, “Nigeria, We Hail Thee.”

This protest comes in response to President Bola Tinubu’s signing of the National Anthem Bill 2024 into law, which brought back the old anthem.

While Yesufu’s actions have sparked debate, with some condemning her refusal to honor the anthem, others have supported her right to express dissent.

Homiebishop criticized her stance, stating, “This is wrong no matter what; you have to respect our national anthem and the president’s order.”

Similarly, AbiaIndigene00 questioned Yesufu’s motives, suggesting, “The National Anthem will outlive you… You think you’re doing Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR?”

On the other hand, AEberonwu urged Yesufu to reflect on her actions, remarking, “Just take a look at yourself as the Anthem went on. You were very uncomfortable because of your deviant errant behavior. Just watch your video again and assess yourself.”
