Michelle Troconis, a Connecticut woman convicted of assisting her boyfriend in the murder of his estranged wife, Jennifer Dulos, in 2019, has been sentenced to 14½ years in prison.

The sentencing, delivered by Stamford Superior Court Judge Kevin Randolph, followed an emotional hearing that lasted for hours.

Troconis, aged 49, was found guilty earlier this year on six criminal charges, including conspiracy to commit murder, related to the death of Jennifer Dulos, a mother of five from New Canaan.

Under the sentence, Troconis will serve 20 years, with 14½ years in prison and five years on probation thereafter. The defense had advocated for probation, while the prosecution sought a 45-year sentence.

Judge Randolph, addressing the age-old questions of retribution, revenge, and empathy, stated from the bench, “These are age-old questions.” Despite the emotional testimonies heard during the hearing, Randolph concluded with what he deemed a fitting ruling.

With the possibility of good time credit, Troconis may be eligible for parole after serving approximately 7¼ or 12⅓ actual years behind bars, according to legal experts.

While prosecutors expressed disappointment that their requested sentence was not granted, they accepted Judge Randolph’s decision.

State’s Attorney Paul Ferencek stated, “Although Jennifer’s family and friends will probably never experience full closure from the trauma Troconis has thrust upon them, hopefully today’s sentence will afford them at least some sense that justice has been achieved.”

Carrie Luft, a friend of the victim and spokesperson for the family, expressed satisfaction with the judge’s ruling, stating, “For us, there is some relief in knowing the defendant will serve substantial time for her crimes, starting now.”

Prior to sentencing, Randolph vacated one count of Troconis’ conviction for conspiracy to tamper with evidence, although this did not impact the overall sentence, as her punishments are to be served concurrently.

Troconis’ boyfriend, Fotis Dulos, the primary suspect in his estranged wife’s disappearance, died in 2020, shortly after attempting suicide. He denied involvement in Jennifer Dulos’ disappearance, who vanished in May 2019 and has since been declared dead.

Troconis was found to have assisted Dulos in disposing of evidence related to the crime, including blood-stained clothing and cleaning a car believed to have been used in the incident. She also aided in creating a false alibi for her boyfriend, according to prosecutors.
