A Minneapolis police officer and a gunman were killed in a mass shooting, according to city officials. The incident, which has shocked the community, also resulted in injuries to several others, including another police officer and a firefighter.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey identified the fallen officer as 36-year-old Jamal Mitchell. “We will honour his sacrifice. We will remember his name. We will never forget what he did for the people of our city. The lives he protected, the lives he saved,” Mayor Frey stated during a press conference.

The suspect, whose identity has not been released, was also killed in the shootout. A second police officer involved in the incident was wounded but has since been released from the hospital. Additionally, a firefighter suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
The shooting left two civilians injured, one gravely and the other critically. Their identities, along with the identity of the suspect, have not been disclosed by authorities.
Minneapolis is in mourning as it grapples with the loss of Officer Mitchell, who is remembered for his dedication and bravery. The incident has also raised concerns about public safety and the well-being of first responders who put their lives on the line daily.
