Former Special Prosecutor Martin Amidu has accused the current Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, of violating procedures and enlisting the help of foreign agents for lie-detector tests on Ghanaian citizens employed by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).

Amidu, in a detailed statement, referenced Section 7 of Act 959, which mandates the vetting of individuals engaged by the OSP. He claimed that Agyebeng failed to comply with this requirement during his appointments.

Additionally, Amidu alleged that Agyebeng brought in agents from a US security agency, led by an African-American woman, to conduct compulsory polygraph tests on Ghanaians working for the OSP.

These tests, which lasted for two weeks, were administered at two or three polygraph stations.

Polygraph tests, commonly known as lie detector tests, measure a person’s physiological responses when answering questions.

Amidu questioned the legality and appropriateness of involving foreign entities in such sensitive security matters. He also raised concerns about the continuation of polygraph testing at the OSP without proper authorization.

Amidu called on the Minister for National Security to clarify whether these actions align with national security and intelligence laws and whether Ghanaian security agencies are incapable of conducting such tests themselves.
