In a video shared online, Jigan showed himself being pushed in a wheelchair upon his arrival in America. He was offered the wheelchair option due to his leg condition, something he rarely experiences in Nigeria.
Jigan highlighted the stark difference in attitudes towards disability between the two countries. In Nigeria, he noted that people often reject help to avoid appearing pitiful.
This mentality, he admitted, is still ingrained in him. However, during his time in America, Jigan observed that disabled individuals receive more assistance and are never left to navigate alone.
Reflecting on his experiences, Jigan shared his thoughts: “In other parts of the world, being disabled comes with real advantages.

I have traveled extensively, and in the USA, I was given the option of a wheelchair because of my leg. But my Nigerian mindset of not wanting pity hasn’t changed.
Here in America, I never see disabled people walking alone without help. But in Nigeria, instead of offering help, people are more interested in what they can get from you.”
Jigan’s reflections highlight the contrasting experiences of disabled individuals in different countries and call attention to the need for a more supportive environment in Nigeria.
He ended on a hopeful note, humorously mentioning his plans to apply for assistance in the United States, emphasizing the value of being seen as a special individual.
