Kingston, a former Ghanaian international, made the decision to step down after the Ghana U17 national team’s defeat in the WAFU B U17 Cup of Nations semi-final match against Burkina Faso.

The Black Starlets lost 2-1 at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, missing out on qualification for the U17 Africa Cup of Nations for the third consecutive time.

Following the game, Kingston expressed his frustration to the media and disclosed that he had made the choice to resign months earlier.

In response, the GFA issued a statement on Sunday, May 26, 2024 confirming the acceptance of Kingston’s resignation and citing his behavior as inappropriate.

Assistants Jacob Nettey and Nana Agyemang will oversee the team during the third-place playoff match against Nigeria on Tuesday.

The GFA’s statement highlighted Kingston’s actions after the match, including his announcement of resignation to the players and coaching staff, departure from the team bus en route to the hotel, absence from the evening meeting with the Management Committee, and failure to report back to the team hotel.

For the upcoming match against Nigeria, the current assistant coaches will assume coaching responsibilities in Kingston’s absence.
