Videos circulating on social media depict leaking roofs, flooding, and dismal conditions in various halls including Dr. Hilla Limann, Alexander Kwapong, Elizabeth Frances Sey, and Jean Nelson Aka.

Students interviewed by Citi News expressed skepticism about the effectiveness of the renovation, highlighting the lack of significant improvements since the purported refurbishment.

According to one student, who has resided in the hall since their first year, there has been no noticeable change despite the government’s claims of substantial investment.

The University’s management acknowledged the structural challenges contributing to flooding during heavy rainfall, clarifying that the university is actively collaborating with the relevant department to address these issues.

Prof. Rosina Kyerematen, the Dean of Students Affairs, emphasized that the renovation works were overseen by the ministry, with the university having no control over the project scope or funding.

Furthermore, sources within the Sports Ministry clarified that the contract with UG Enterprise Limited did not cover repair works on leaking ceilings, contrary to speculation.

UG Enterprise Limited also denied receiving payment from the Sports Ministry for preparatory work at the halls before the Africa Games.

In response to student concerns, the university management has pledged to work closely with the relevant department to tackle structural issues and storm drain problems contributing to the persistent flooding, while the Enterprise has committed to addressing student grievances.
