Mauricio Pochettino is reportedly in the running to replace Erik ten Hag at Manchester United following Ten Hag’s departure from Chelsea.

Pochettino is interested in the Old Trafford position, which he missed out on two years ago when Ten Hag was appointed. The Argentine coach, who has also attracted interest from Bayern Munich, recently left Chelsea by mutual agreement after a brief tenure.

During his time at Stamford Bridge, Pochettino led Chelsea to a mixed season, finishing sixth in the 2023/24 season and securing a place in the Conference League.

Depending on the outcome of Manchester United’s FA Cup final against Manchester City, this position could potentially be upgraded to the Europa League.

Despite Chelsea’s challenging season, including 11 Premier League defeats and losses in the FA Cup semi-finals and Carabao Cup final, Pochettino’s late-season resurgence, winning the last five league matches, made a positive impact.

In contrast, Manchester United had a disappointing season under Ten Hag, finishing eighth in the Premier League with a goal difference of -1.

Their Champions League campaign ended in the group stage, and they were eliminated from the Carabao Cup after a 3-0 loss to Newcastle.

Even a victory over Manchester City in the FA Cup final may not secure Ten Hag’s position at Manchester United, potentially paving the way for Pochettino to step in.

Pochettino’s familiarity with the Premier League from his time at Tottenham and Southampton adds to his appeal as a potential candidate for the managerial role at Old Trafford.
