The Ghana Police Service has asked the High Court to stop a planned protest against the power outages known as “Dumsor.”

This protest, organized by Yvonne Nelson, Selorm Dzramado, and Henry Akoto, was initially set for May 25 at the Revolution Square near the Jubilee House.

However, after a meeting with the Accra Regional Police Command on May 15, the organizers were told to change the protest location because the Jubilee House is a security zone.

On May 20, the police filed a request for an injunction to prevent the protest. They argued that the protest could affect public order, safety, and effective policing. The court will decide on this request on May 24.

In response, the protest organizers have changed their plans. They announced a new date of June 8 for the protest.

Instead of gathering at Revolution Square, protesters will now meet in front of the University of Ghana and march to the Tetteh Quarshie Roundabout. A podium will be set up there for speeches.

The organizers expect protesters to gather at 2 pm and leave by 10 pm. They also promised to minimize disruption for other road users by ensuring traffic flows smoothly during the protest.
