DJ Azonto and his team had demanded $10 million from Dr. Bawumia after he used the song at a recent political event.
In an interview with Property FM in Cape Coast, Barima Sidney clarified that under Ghana’s copyright laws, DJ Azonto is not entitled to any payment from the Vice President.
Sidney explained that when a song is played at a public event like a political rally, the law does not require payment to the artist. He compared it to a song being played at a birthday party, where no compensation is expected.

Sidney noted that the situation would be different if the song were used in an advertisement. If a song is cut and used in a TV or radio jingle, then the artist must be paid for its use, according to advice from his lawyer.
He emphasized that using a song for advertising purposes would allow the artist to take legal action for compensation. However, simply playing and dancing to a song at a rally does not fall under this category.
Barima Sidney, whose real name is Sidney Kofi Ofori, concluded that DJ Azonto has no grounds for suing Dr. Bawumia under the current copyright laws for the use of his song at the rally.
