The Presidency has issued reassurances regarding President Akufo-Addo’s safety following an accident involving his convoy.

In a press release dated Sunday, May 19, signed by Communications Director Eugene Arhin, it was clarified that the President was not present in the convoy at the time of the incident.
The statement explained that President Akufo-Addo had returned to Accra from the funeral of the late Deputy Finance Minister, John Kumah, via military aircraft.
The accident occurred at Bunso on Sunday, May 19, while the convoy was en route from Kumasi, where they had accompanied the President to various events over the weekend.
The unfortunate incident resulted in the loss of life of the driver of a Toyota Land Cruiser, Kwesi Arthur. Additionally, several close protection and police officers from the President’s security detail sustained injuries and are receiving treatment at the Suhum Government Hospital, with plans for further observation at the University of Ghana Medical Centre.

The Presidency emphasized its close monitoring of the situation and pledged to communicate details of subsequent arrangements.
Reports indicate that the accident occurred when a KIA Rhino truck crossed the path of the convoy, leading to the collision. Videos circulating on social media depict the severe damage to the Toyota vehicle and the presence of security personnel at the scene.
