Ayra Starr, a Nigerian Afrobeats artist known for hits like ‘Rush’, ‘Sability’, ‘Rhythm & Blues’, and more, has joined fellow Nigerian Tiwa Savage as the only other African artist to be featured in both Spotify’s EQUAL Africa and EQUAL Global programs for May 2024.

Spotify’s EQUAL program aims to celebrate and amplify the work of women artists worldwide.
In 2023, the platform hosted 15 EQUAL activations, resulting in over 14.8 million artist discoveries stemming from EQUAL playlists.

EQUAL artists also received 11,800 editorial playlist ads, demonstrating the program’s significant impact and reach.

Ayra Starr’s February release, ‘Commas’, has already amassed over 35 million streams on Spotify.
Speaking about her selection as Spotify’s EQUAL artist, Ayra Starr expressed her gratitude and the importance of representing women in Afrobeats and African women in general.
“I am grateful to become a Spotify EQUAL Ambassador. It means so much to me to be able to represent women in Afrobeats and African women in general. There are so many women in music right now and the EQUAL program is doing a great job in highlighting their hard work.”
