President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced the appointment of Prof. Attahiru Jega, the former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to a new role.

Prof. Jega will serve as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Board of Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto (UDUS) in Sokoto State.
This appointment is part of a larger announcement by President Tinubu, who approved 555 others to serve as chairmen and members of governing councils of tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

Prof. Jega, born on January 11, 1957, is a Nigerian academic and former Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano.
Prof. Jega previously served as the Chairman of INEC, a position he held from 2010 to 2015. He was nominated by then-President Goodluck Jonathan and confirmed by the Senate. During his tenure, he oversaw several elections in Nigeria.
After retiring from INEC in 2015, he handed over his position to Amina Zakari, as directed by President Muhammadu Buhari.
