John Kumah Firmly Backed Me In Becoming A Flagbearer – Bawumia

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has disclosed that the deceased former Member of Parliament for Ejisu and Deputy Finance Minister, Dr. John Ampontuah Kumah, had a significant influence on his choice to contest for the presidency.

Bawumia, in a deeply moving tribute to John Kumah, conveyed his appreciation to the late Minister, emphasizing his unwavering support and encouragement from the very beginning of his decision.

According to Bawumia, Kumah was one of the initial party leaders to openly encourage him to pursue the highest office, pledging steadfast support, and his passing is deeply personal to him.

He recalled how Kumah campaigned alongside him throughout the nation, showcasing his dedication to Bawumia’s presidential aspirations.

“His initiatives focused on empowering the youth and looking for a brighter future for Ghana’s next generation. His commitment to the national development programme remains indelible and has left an enduring mark on the country’s trajectory. He was also a lawyer of good standing, in that area too he was brilliant, diligent and professional in dealings with his clients.”

“His sudden death in March has been a personal blow. Long before I decided to run for president, Hon. John Kumah was among the few party leaders and legislators to have publicly urged me to run and pledged his unending support. Through his public pledge, John supported me strongly, campaigning with me everywhere in the country.”

Thousands of loved ones, including political leaders, have gathered at the venue to mourn with the family.

The unexpected death of John Kumah on March 7, 2024, reverberated throughout Ghana, creating a void in both the political and personal realms.

John Kumah died at the age of 45, leaving behind his wife and six children.
