These individuals allegedly disrupted the ongoing limited voter registration exercise in Okaikwei North.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter) dated May 16, 2024, Gyamfi stated that the arrests were made by the anti-armed robbery unit of the police.

He described the arrested individuals as “armed bandits” and claimed they were found with live ammunition, cutlasses, and other weapons.

Gyamfi further alleged that these individuals were apprehended while publicly smoking marijuana behind the district court, near the voter registration center.

He also accused the same group of attacking the office of Theresa Lardi Awuni, the NDC Member of Parliament for the area, resulting in injuries to some individuals.

He expressed concerns that some senior officials from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) were attempting to secure the release of the arrested individuals. Gyamfi warned that the NDC would closely monitor the situation.

“Sources from the Police regional command have hinted us that some senior NPP officials are at the Police Station trying to secure bail for these hoodlums,” he stated.

As of now, the police service has not issued an official statement on the incident. GhanaWeb is actively seeking more information from regional and national sources regarding the allegations.
