During the interview, Donkor and host Cookie Tee engaged in what appeared to be a light-hearted discussion about the perceived weightiness of Ewe names, with Donkor expressing a preference for marrying individuals with “lighter” names.

However, the banter between the two Ewe personalities drew backlash from viewers and social media users, who found the comments inappropriate and offensive.

In an Instagram post addressing the controversy, Celestine Donkor clarified that the remarks were intended as jest and were not meant to mock Ewes or their cultural heritage.

Acknowledging the unintended offense caused by her comments, Donkor expressed regret, describing the incident as a “bad joke” with unintended consequences.

Despite the controversy, Donkor reaffirmed her pride in her Ewe heritage, emphasizing her deep appreciation for the culture and language, which she views as special and spiritual.

She highlighted her consistent demonstration of pride in her culture through her music and the names of her daughters.
