The Electoral Commission (EC) has strongly rebuked Franklin Cudjoe, president of IMANI Africa, over allegations of deliberate disenfranchisement of Santrokofi, Apkafu, Lolobi, and Likpe (SALL) residents during the 2020 parliamentary elections.

In a statement dated May 15, 2024, the EC dismissed Cudjoe’s claims as false and based on misinformation, asserting that it had never intended to disenfranchise the people of the newly created Guan Constituency.
“The Commission never disenfranchised the good people of the newly created Guan Constituency. It is not in our interest to do so,” stated Samuel Boadu, Acting Head of Public Affairs, in the statement.
The EC outlined the meticulous processes it undertook leading up to the 2020 elections, including engagements with Parliament and the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, to facilitate SALL residents’ participation in the parliamentary vote.

The Commission emphasized the impracticality of creating a new constituency while Parliament was in recess, highlighting the need to follow due processes before presenting the matter before the House.
“How can any well-meaning person accuse the Commission of disenfranchising the good people of SALL when the facts are so clear? It is unfortunate that IMANI continues to peddle falsehood and untruths about the Commission at every point and turn,” the statement emphasized.
The EC categorically refuted Cudjoe’s narrative, labeling it as false and misleading, and reaffirmed its commitment to upholding electoral integrity and ensuring all eligible voters exercise their franchise.
