Despite rumors suggesting that Liverpool is ready to pay the release clause for Ghanaian midfielder Mohammed Kudus of West Ham United, it has been clarified by the club’s correspondent, Sean Whetstone, that the clause of £85 million is not yet active.

Ibrahim Saanie Daara, previously with the Ghana Football Association, had indicated on his social media that Liverpool was making moves to secure Kudus’ release.

Nevertheless, Whetstone explained that the release clause in Kudus’ contract won’t be in effect until July 2025, which is aligned with the terms of his contract that stipulate a release clause can only be utilized after the third transfer window post-signing.

“Release clauses in club contracts only activate after the third transfer window following their signing. The same was true about Lucas Paqueta whose £85 million release clause only becomes active this summer after signing for the Hammers from Lyon in August 2022” Whetstone said to Claret and Hugh.

This was similarly the case for Lucas Paqueta, whose own release clause becomes valid this summer following his transfer to West Ham from Lyon in August 2022.

Kudus, who joined West Ham last season, will therefore have his release clause available for activation at the conclusion of the 2024-2025 season.

As the season comes to a close, Kudus boasts an impressive record of seven goals and six assists across 32 league appearances.
