Artisans at Suame Magazine Zone 13 in the Ashanti Region are seeking urgent intervention from Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to prevent their eviction by a private developer, ‘The Gosie Group’.

According to a report by asaaseradio.com, the artisans argue that the land on which they have operated for decades is protected by an Executive Instrument (E.I 36). This means that any attempt to evict them would require an amendment to E.I.36 by Parliament.

The artisans, who have been part of the Suame industrial hub for generations, fear that eviction would result in both humanitarian and economic crises.

Erich Arhin, Chairman of the artisans, emphasized the need for intervention from Dr. Bawumia and the Asantehene to prevent their displacement.

He stated, “We are urging the authorities to intervene so we can continue our work.”

Speaking to reporters, one artisan expressed concern about the promises made by political leaders, highlighting the need for employment opportunities and recognition of their contributions. He called on Vice President Bawumia to fulfill the pledges made to them.

Kwabena Nsenkyire, a spare part dealer and member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), assured the artisans that the government is working to resolve the situation. He emphasized the importance of Vice President Bawumia’s direct intervention to address their grievances.

The artisans are hopeful that their plea for assistance will be heard, and they can continue their livelihoods without the threat of eviction looming over them.
