In a lawsuit filed on April 25, 2024, Nana Oye is seeking general damages of US$500,000.00 and exemplary damages of US$1 million. These claims stem from alleged defamatory statements made by Tony Lithur in his divorce petition, filed on May 2, 2018, after their 27-year marriage ended.

The divorce petition reportedly contained accusations portraying Nana Oye in a negative light, including claims of laziness, irresponsibility, adultery, and violence, which she believes have tarnished her image both locally and internationally.

According to Nana Oye, the false allegations prompted an investigation by the Office of the Special Prosecutor into corruption-related offenses and illegal property acquisition in South Africa.

She alleges that the accusations led to her being investigated and subsequently admitted to bail, causing significant distress and reputational harm.

Furthermore, Nana Oye contends that Tony Lithur’s actions were deliberate and malicious, aimed at destroying her reputation, professional career, and public life.

She asserts that his stature as a senior lawyer lent credibility to his defamatory statements, amplifying their damaging impact.

In addition to damages, Nana Oye seeks a perpetual injunction restraining Tony Lithur from making further defamatory statements, as well as a retraction and apology to be published on various social media platforms and news websites.
