Known for his roles in “Boardwalk Empire” and “Reservoir Dogs,” Buscemi sustained injuries to his face during the incident, requiring hospital treatment. His publicist described it as a “random act of violence” that occurred in Manhattan, resulting in bruises and a bloody eye for the 66-year-old actor.

Police responded to an emergency call reporting the assault on Wednesday, involving a 66-year-old man who was punched in the face.

Authorities released a description and photograph of the suspect, who was described as wearing a dark-colored baseball cap, a blue T-shirt, black trousers, and white trainers, carrying a bag at the time of the attack.

The incident took place in Midtown around 11:48 ET (15:48 GMT) near 369 Third Ave.

Following the assault, Buscemi was transported to Bellevue Hospital for treatment of bruising, swelling, and bleeding to his left eye.

In a statement, Buscemi’s publicist expressed gratitude for the well-wishes and highlighted the unfortunate occurrence of such a random act of violence in the city.

Witnesses recounted seeing the actor seemingly trip and fall backward during the attack before quickly getting up and running away.

While there have been reports of random attacks in the city, official statistics indicate an overall decrease in crime rates in New York City. However, to address high-profile incidents of violence, hundreds of National Guard troops were deployed to the subway in March.

Buscemi, a New Yorker himself who once served as a firefighter, gained critical acclaim for his portrayal of a corrupt Atlantic City politician in the HBO series “Boardwalk Empire,” earning him a Golden Globe award.
