Martin Kpebu, a legal practitioner, has raised concerns about the potential vulnerability of the current Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa, given her perceived political ties.

Kpebu warned that Mensa could face a fate similar to her predecessor, Charlotte Osei, should there be a change of government.
Speaking on a panel discussion on TV3 on May 11, 2024, Kpebu highlighted the challenges surrounding the ongoing voter registration process and suggested that Mensa’s political affiliations could potentially jeopardize her tenure.
“Madam Jean Mensa is politically tainted, she is likely to suffer the same fate as Charlotte Osei if another government comes,” 3news.com quoted him to have said.

The dismissal of Charlotte Osei and her deputies, Amadu Sulley and Georgina Opoku Amankwaa, was marked by allegations of corruption and misconduct.
Following recommendations from an investigative committee, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo promptly relieved them of their duties.
The decision to remove Osei and her deputies stemmed from various accusations, including claims of unilateral decision-making without consulting other EC departments, as well as allegations of engaging in fraudulent activities.
Among the contentious issues was Osei’s cancellation of a contract with Superlock Technologies Limited (STL) for the supply and management of Biometric Voter Registration machines (BVRs) and Biometric Voter Devices (BVDs), alongside a directive for the payment of $76,000 to IT firm, Dream Oval.
