American actress and stuntwoman Susan Backlinie, best known for her iconic role as Chrissie Watkins in Steven Spielberg’s blockbuster film “Jaws,” has passed away at the age of 77.

Backlinie, whose career included work as both an actress and a stuntwoman specializing in swimming scenes, died on May 11, 2024.
In addition to her memorable role in “Jaws,” Backlinie also appeared in Spielberg’s 1979 film “1941,” where she humorously reprised her role from “Jaws.”

Instead of being attacked by a shark, her character in “1941” is comically encountered by a Japanese submarine’s periscope.
