Confirming the incident, DOIII Ebenezer Yenzu, the Tema Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service, stated that they received a distress call around 2:20 pm and immediately dispatched personnel to the scene.

Joyea Construction is engaged in various construction activities, including roofing sheets and trusses.

The explosion occurred when one of the oxyacetylene gas tanks used for metal fabrication ruptured. Oxyacetylene is a combination of acetylene gas and oxygen, commonly used for welding and cutting metals.

Fortunately, the explosion did not lead to a fire, but investigations are underway to determine the exact cause. DOIII Yenzu outlined several potential factors contributing to the rupture, including leakage from the tank, nozzle issues, concentration levels, positioning, and exposure to heat.

He emphasized the importance of identifying the root cause to prevent similar incidents in the future. The Fire Service’s immediate priority is to ensure all hazards are contained and to monitor the condition of the injured individuals.

DOIII Yenzu advised companies handling industrial materials to maintain vigilance over their operations, including regular temperature checks, inspection of equipment for leaks, and maintaining safe distances during welding activities.

As investigations continue, authorities will engage with Joyea Construction management to ensure safety protocols are reinforced to prevent future accidents.
