“The establishment of Prempeh International Airport is a testament to our commitment to fostering economic growth and prosperity in the Ashanti Region. This infrastructure will facilitate increased trade flows and attract investments, ultimately driving rapid development,” Ahiagbah remarked.

President Akufo-Addo officially commissioned the airport on Friday, May 10, 2024, in the presence of dignitaries including the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, traditional authorities, government officials, and members of the NPP.

The project includes the construction of a new terminal building, parking areas, VVIP and VIP lounges, restaurants, commercial areas, and boarding gates.

Despite encountering delays in the final phase of construction due to financial constraints, the airport now stands ready to accommodate international flights.

With a capacity to handle 800,000 passengers per annum and 200 passengers every hour, it is poised to serve as a vital gateway for economic activities, international trade, tourism, and cultural exchange.

President Akufo-Addo, speaking at the commissioning ceremony, hailed the completion of the project as a realization of a vision that will benefit the people of the Ashanti Region and beyond.

“The opening of Prempeh International Airport marks a significant milestone in our quest for development. This facility will not only enhance connectivity but also serve as a symbol of progress and prosperity for the region,” President Akufo-Addo stated.

Echoing sentiments of gratitude, Juabenhene Nana Otuo Siribuor II lauded the President for delivering on his promise to the people of Ashanti. He emphasized the positive impact of the airport on travel convenience and cost reduction for residents.

While the commencement of full commercial operations at the terminal is expected after the completion of some pending works by the end of June, the local community and business stakeholders are eagerly anticipating the opportunities that the airport will unlock for trade and investment in the region.
