Sean Burroughs, a former MLB first-round pick and 2000 Olympic gold medalist, has passed away at the age of 43.

Burroughs tragically died on Thursday, May 9, before he could coach his son’s Little League game.

The California Long Beach Little League confirmed his passing in a statement on Instagram, revealing that he was found unconscious next to his car in a Long Beach ballfield parking lot.

Despite efforts from first responders, Burroughs was pronounced dead at the scene.

The cause of death was reported as cardiac arrest, according to Burroughs’ mother, Debbie.

A beloved figure in the baseball community, Burroughs had a remarkable career, winning Little League World Series Championships in 1992 and 1993 for LBLL.

He gained national attention for throwing back-to-back no-hitters during the LLWS and even appeared on The Late Show With David Letterman at the age of 12.

The Long Beach Little League league president, Doug Wittman, expressed shock and sorrow at the loss, describing the league as a close-knit family deeply affected by Burroughs’ passing.

In a tribute statement, the Long Beach league honored Burroughs for his contributions to the community and the sport of baseball.

The national Little League organization also paid homage to Burroughs’ Little League days in an Instagram post, reflecting on his achievements and impact.

Burroughs is survived by his parents and his son, Knox. His untimely passing has left a profound void in the baseball world, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
