Williams, a former MVP and outspoken commentator, passed away on Friday, May 10, 2024.

Originally a New York street-baller, Williams played professionally in 12 countries before joining the Townsville Crocodiles in 2007.

His dynamic style of play and on-court prowess earned him the league’s MVP award in 2010. Williams later played for the Melbourne Tigers and transitioned into commentary, becoming a prominent voice in the NBL.

His presence coincided with the revitalization of the Australian league, which has grown to become one of the strongest in the world and a pathway to the NBA.

NBL owner Larry Kestelman expressed his condolences, stating, “Having Corey as part of the NBL commentary team was by far one of the best decisions I ever made. Corey’s positivity was infectious. He had a laugh and smile that could light up any room.”

Williams was diagnosed with Stage 4 metastatic colon cancer in August of the previous year. Despite his diagnosis, he remained positive and dedicated to raising awareness of the disease. Last month, he hosted a golf day attended by Australian basketball greats to support his treatment efforts.

“Corey’s been nothing but positive, and it’s hard not to want to help a guy like that,” said two-time NBL champion Lanard Copeland.

Williams leaves behind a legacy as an icon of Australian basketball. His contributions to the sport and his impact on those around him will be remembered fondly by fans and colleagues alike. May he rest in peace.
