Nigerian Naira Continues to Depreciate in Official Foreign Exchange Market

On Wednesday, the value of the Naira, Nigeria’s currency, saw a slight decrease against the US dollar.

According to data from the FMDQ Exchange, which oversees the Nigerian Autonomous Foreign Exchange Market (NAFEM), the Naira traded at N1,421.06 to the dollar, marking a decline of N4.49 compared to the previous trading day’s rate of N1,416.57.

Despite this drop, there was an increase in the total daily turnover, reaching N164.74 million dollars on Wednesday, up from N160.77 million dollars on Tuesday.

In the Investor’s and Exporter’s (I&E) window, the Naira was observed trading within the range of N1,440 and N1,335 against the dollar.

This movement follows a depreciation observed on Tuesday, where the Naira traded at N1,416.57 to the dollar, losing N62.36 according to data from the FMDQ Exchange.

These fluctuations in the exchange rate underscore the importance of monitoring economic indicators closely, as they can impact various sectors of the economy.
