Byrne, an accomplished rider, garnered admiration for his performances in the Grand National and several victories at Cheltenham.

Throughout his career in the UK, the Irishman clinched 96 victories, notably riding 61 winners aboard horses trained by Tim Vaughan since 2009.

Vaughan, deeply saddened by Byrne’s untimely death, shared his grief, stating, “It is just so sad and I am devastated for Michael’s family and friends.”

Byrne’s journey in the Grand National included a memorable ride in 2014 atop Tim Vaughan’s 66-1 outsider Golan Way.

In 2010, Byrne clinched victory at Aintree’s Listed mares’ bumper astride Big Time Billy, triumphing against the odds at 28-1.

This triumph was part of a remarkable day for Byrne and the team, with Always Waining securing the first of his Topham Chase titles, a race he would dominate in subsequent years.

Following financial challenges, Byrne concluded his racing career in Britain in 2016 and returned to Tipperary to work alongside his father, Michael Byrne Snr. He also engaged in preparing point-to-point horses for Pat Doyle.

Reflecting on Byrne’s legacy, Doyle remarked, “Michael was very successful as a jockey and was a brilliant horseman.”
