A tragic incident unfolded at the Atomic Police Barracks in Kwabenya when Lance Corporal Francis Adusei, a member of the Service Workshop, allegedly shot himself with a service rifle.

The incident, which reportedly occurred on Monday, May 6, 2024, at approximately 8:45 am, sent shockwaves through the community. Neighbors reported hearing a gunshot emanating from Block 3, Room No. 10B, prompting them to investigate.
Upon entering the residence, they discovered Lance Corporal Adusei with a gunshot wound, and an AK47 assault rifle, bearing the serial number GHGP/58NHQ/PU/AZ6303 – 205, lying on the bed. Traces of blood were visible on both the bedspread and the floor.

Further inspection revealed an empty shell and one round of AK47 ammunition in the bedroom. The door was found locked from the inside, suggesting that the Lance Corporal had acted alone.

He was swiftly rushed to the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission Hospital (GAEC) for urgent medical attention.
After stabilization, he was transferred to the emergency ward of Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, where medical personnel endeavored to save his life. Despite their efforts, Lance Corporal Adusei tragically succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment.
His body has been transported to the Police Hospital mortuary for preservation, pending an autopsy to ascertain the cause of death.
