Former Minister Kenneth Gbagi Passes Away at 62

Kenneth Gbagi, a former Minister of State for Education, has passed away at the age of 62.

His eldest son, Emuoboh Gbagi, confirmed the sad news in a statement from the family. Gbagi was born in Delta State, Nigeria, in September 1961.

He attended Bishop Johnson Memory Primary School in Sapele and later Kosofe Secondary School in Lagos. Afterward, he ventured into the Foreign Service before pursuing further education abroad.

While in Hong Kong, Gbagi produced a movie called “The Birth of Hong Kong” in 1993, using the proceeds to support his education.

He studied political science at Sans Thomas University and criminology at the Philippine College of Criminology.

Returning to Nigeria, he served in the National Youth Service Corp at the Nigeria Police College Ikeja, where he taught criminology. He later pursued a law degree at the University of Lagos.

Gbagi’s political journey included clinching the SDP governorship ticket in Delta State’s last election, although he lost to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of the PDP.

Previously, he served as the Minister of State for Education under former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration.

Gbagi’s passing leaves behind a legacy of service, achievement, and impact on countless individuals and communities, as expressed in the family’s statement of gratitude for his life.
