The protest, organized by the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), and the Coalition of Concerned Teachers Ghana (CCT-GH), saw hundreds of educators taking to the streets wearing red mourning clothes and carrying placards to highlight their grievances.
Among the placards were messages such as “Teachers are not beggars,” “We also deserve our allowances as teachers,” and “Our take-home pay can’t take us home.”
The demonstrators, who diverted traffic flow in the Ho Municipality, marched from the Ho Central Market to the Volta Regional Coordinating Council, where they presented a petition to the government through the Regional Minister.

Solomon Takyi, Regional Chairman of CCT-GH, voiced the teachers’ longstanding battle for better conditions of service, emphasizing their frustrations over unpaid allowances dating back to 2009.
Takyi highlighted the impact of the government’s failure to implement agreed-upon allowances, noting the severe economic conditions faced by teachers in Ghana.
“We have had to endure, with our members complaining bitterly,” Takyi stated. “These complaints have worsened, especially as our members suffer under the severe economic conditions in the country.”
The teachers issued an ultimatum, giving the Ghana Education Service two weeks to address their concerns, failing which they threatened further action.
Augustus Awiti, Volta Regional Coordinator, received the petition on behalf of the Regional Minister, assuring that it would be forwarded to the relevant authorities for consideration.
