Girona’s outstanding play in the second half led to a win against Barcelona, which also meant they qualified for the Champions League for the first time ever.

Barcelona was leading the game until Portu came off the bench and changed everything. He scored right away and then added a stunning volley, similar to the famous one by Marco van Basten.
Barcelona had gone ahead early with a goal from Andreas Christensen, but Girona answered back with Artem Dovbyk’s goal. Then Robert Lewandowski put Barcelona ahead again with a penalty kick.
But Portu was the star, scoring again in the 65th minute and setting up Miguel Gutierrez for another goal soon after. Portu’s two goals and an assist made sure Girona won and stopped Barcelona from keeping their title.

His second goal sealed the win in the 74th minute. With Barcelona’s defeat, Real Madrid is now 13 points clear at the top of La Liga, and Girona has moved up to second place, ahead of Barcelona.
This is only the third time in 16 seasons that a team has beaten Barcelona twice in one La Liga season. Real Madrid and Rayo Vallecano have done it before.
Now that they’ve won the league, Real Madrid is focusing on the Champions League. They’re getting ready for the second leg of the semi-finals against Bayern Munich, after drawing the first leg 2-2.
