After months of disagreement, Universal Music Group (UMG) and TikTok have finally settled their differences. This means UMG’s music will be back on the app for users to enjoy.

The agreement, announced on May 2, 2024, includes TikTok paying more money to UMG’s artists and songwriters. It also promises better marketing tools and addresses concerns about the use of artificial intelligence.
Previously, UMG removed its music from TikTok because of issues like low payment for artists, concerns about AI, and worries about mental health and bullying.

TikTok argued that UMG was prioritizing its own interests over those of its artists and refused to pay more than it thought was fair.
Now, with this agreement, artists under UMG can once again take advantage of TikTok’s promotion opportunities. Fans will be happy to reconnect with their favorite UMG-signed artists on the app.
However, while UMG and TikTok have made peace, TikTok is still facing challenges in the United States. The government there wants the Chinese-owned company to sell its US division or face consequences.
