The court has set April 30, 2024, as the deadline for the first witness to appear before it. If the prosecution fails to present a witness by this date, the accused persons will be discharged and the case will be dismissed.

The court had previously stated that if no meaningful steps were taken by April, Nyantakyi would be discharged.

The accused’s lawyer requested the court to dismiss the case, citing the inconvenience caused by the second accused, Abdulai Alhassan, who has to travel from Tamale to Accra for court appearances, and the inconvenience caused by the first accused, Kwesi Nyantakyi, due to the state not opening their case.

However, the court received two letters from the state’s attorney, dated April 26, 2024, requesting an adjournment due to an official assignment. The court also mentioned that pending interlocutory appeals, including one by the prosecution and another by Kwasi Nyantakyi, have delayed the case.

The court stated that if no meaningful steps are taken towards the appeal, the accused would be discharged. The prosecution was to call additional witnesses whose evidence would not be affected by the outcome of the decision. The case has been adjourned to June 10, 2024.
