The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has reportedly decided to choose a local coach to lead the Super Eagles after Jose Peseiro’s departure.

A meeting between the NFF’s executive and technical committees on April 28 resulted in this agreement.
The NFF aims to introduce the new coach to the public within this week. Peseiro, the former coach, left his position when his contract ended in February.
During his tenure, he steered the team to a commendable second place at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

One potential successor is Finidi George, who served as Peseiro’s assistant and temporarily led the team in recent friendlies against Ghana and Mali.
The Super Eagles are gearing up for important qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup against South Africa and Benin Republic in June.
