On Friday, April 25, 2024, the newly renovated Kumasi International Airport received an Airbus A320 aircraft, marking a significant milestone for airport managers, Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL).

The aircraft, transporting the Zamalek football team, successfully landed at 14:16 local time.
This achievement underscores the efforts of GACL to fully operationalize the airport by the end of June 2024. It marks the third time an A320 aircraft has successfully landed and taken off from the facility since 2019.
Already, several international airlines have expressed their intention to operate scheduled passenger flights to the airport, located in the Ashanti regional capital of Kumasi.

Transport Minister Kwaku Ofori Asiamah, during a recent tour of the facility, announced plans to inaugurate the airport in May, with full operationalization expected by the end of June 2024.
Further expansion works are planned to extend the length of the current runway from 1994m to 2,300m to accommodate larger planes beyond the A320 and B737.
Aviance, a leading passenger and ground handling company, successfully serviced the EgyptAir flight on April 25, 2024. Mark Kamis, Managing Director of Aviance, expressed excitement about expanding ground handling activities to airline customers in Kumasi and Tamale, ensuring smooth operations and enhanced services for chartered flights.
