The Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) has announced with profound sadness the passing of its esteemed patron, Joe Lartey Snr.

The veteran commentator, whose lively voice breathed life into Ghanaian sports for generations, passed away on Friday, April 26, 2024.
Born on June 6, 1927, in Accra, Joe Lartey who also known as “Over to You,” was an iconic broadcaster and served as the first president of SWAG.

Lartey embarked on his journalism career at the Ghana Broadcasting Cooperation (GBC) in 1961 as a football commentator, hosting GTV’s flagship sports program, Sports Digest.

Over the years, he endeared himself to the Ghanaian sports community, becoming a beloved figure.
In acknowledgment of his significant contributions to sports journalism, Lartey was bestowed with the prestigious “A Life in Sport” award by the International Sports Press Association (AIPS) at the AIPS Sport Media Awards ceremony held in Doha, Qatar, in June 2022.
Lartey funeral arrangements is yet to be released by his family.
