Gospel singer KODA dies from kidney complications at 45

Renowned Ghanaian gospel singer, Kofi Owusu Dua Anto, better known as KODA, passed away at the age of 45 on Sunday, April 21, 2024, after battling kidney disease for a period of time.

The sad news was confirmed by gospel musician Nii Okai, a close friend of KODA, who relayed the information to myjoyonline.com.

In a statement, Nii Okai shared, “KODA has passed onto glory in the early hours of Sunday, April 21, 2024. Let us pray for the family as we all process the news of his transition.”

While the exact cause of his death was not disclosed, unconfirmed reports suggest that he succumbed to complications related to the illness he had been battling.

Kofi Owusu Dua Anto, known professionally as KODA, was a highly respected figure in the Ghanaian gospel music scene.

Based in Takoradi, in the Western Region of Ghana, KODA was not only a talented gospel singer and songwriter but also a skilled music producer and multi-instrumentalist.

He was celebrated for his influential contributions to contemporary gospel music in Ghana, having worked with numerous prominent artists in the industry, including the late Danny Nettey, Ps. Joe Beechem, Nii Okai, Halal Afrika, and Eugene Zuta.

Throughout his career, KODA released an impressive array of music, including three studio albums, two live albums, and two instrumental/jazz albums. His sixth vocal album, titled ‘Keteke,’ added to his legacy of impactful gospel music.

Some of KODA’s most beloved gospel songs include ‘Nkwaa Abodo,’ ‘Nsem Pii,’ ‘Adooso,’ ‘Hossana,’ ‘Poma Dadaa,’ ‘Amen,’ and ‘Zion Song,’ among others.

KODA leaves behind a cherished legacy in Ghanaian gospel music. He was married to Ewurama Dua Anto, who is also a singer, and they were blessed with three children – two sons and a daughter.
