Truck Driver Involved In The New Train Collision Jailed 6 Months

Abel Dzidotor, the driver reportedly accountable for the train accident, has been handed a six-month prison sentence.

According to sources, Dzidotor confessed to being culpable for three out of the four charges brought against him.

These charges encompass reckless driving and causing unauthorized damage.

The first charge was for careless and inconsiderate driving, a breach of Section 3 of the RTA Act 683 (2004), amended by Act 761 of 2008. Dzidotor admitted guilt and was fined 100 penalty units, which equates to a possible 20-month imprisonment if not settled.

The second charge was for unauthorized stopping, contravening Section 19 of Act 683 of 2004, as amended by Act 761 of 2008. Dzidotor admitted his guilt and received a penalty of 20 units, equivalent to a potential five-month imprisonment if not paid.

The third charge was for causing unauthorized damage, as per section 172b of Act 2960. Dzidotor admitted guilt and was sentenced to six months of hard labor.

The fourth charge was for failing to present a driver’s license, in violation of regulation 47(2) of LI 21(80). Dzidotor pleaded not guilty, stating that his license was inside the damaged vehicle.

He has been directed to submit the license to the court by May 9, 2024, or risk facing potential consequences.
